Kevin S. Coel is Senior Vice President and Corporate Controller for Con-way Inc., (NYSE:CNW) a $5.3 billion freight transportation and logistics services company headquartered in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Con-way delivers industry-leading services through its primary operating companies of Con-way Freight, Menlo Worldwide Logistics and Con-way Truckload. These operating units provide high-performance, day-definite, less-than-truckload (LTL) and full truckload and intermodal freight transportation, as well as logistics, warehousing and supply chain management services, and trailer manufacturing. Con-way Inc. and its subsidiaries operate from 500 locations across North America and in 18 countries and five continents.
A 20-year veteran of the transportation and global supply chain industry, Mr. Coel joined the company in 1990 as an accounting manager and in 1995 was promoted to assistant corporate controller. He was subsequently named corporate controller in 2000 and was promoted to vice president and corporate controller in 2002. He has served in his current position since 2009.
Mr. Coel is responsible for the enterprise’s corporate, financial and management accounting including consolidation and reporting functions, fixed assets, overseeing Sarbanes Oxley compliance and interpretation of accounting rules. He also has been responsible for the financial aspects of the sale and spin-off of a several significant subsidiaries and purchase of a significant subsidiary and lesser foreign entities.
Prior to joining Con-way, Mr. Coel served as a consolidations and reporting manager for Varian Associates from 1989-1990 and as an auditor for Deloitte and Touche from 1985-1989.
Mr. Coel is based at Con-way’s administrative and technology headquarters in Portland, Ore. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Davis and an MBA from San Jose State University. He is a certified public accountant, licensed in California. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Financial Executives International.
